CHAMPIONS

for East Coast Bays

WHAT’S BEEN ACHIEVED?

Saving North Harbour Stadium • Record new investment in infrastructure, transport, flood recovery • Challenging unsustainable rate increases • Safeguarding community assets & Port

Billion-dollar transport projects

Last year the Mayor & CCO Auckland Unlimited planned to demolish North Harbour Stadium & sell off the land. It took monumental effort from us and a small group of committed people, with the support of Erica Stanford MP, to save the stadium - plus overwhelming support from the community. We won a decisive victory. Our efforts are now focused on getting more sports, events & entertainment back. “We are totally committed to safeguarding this magnificent community asset - making it a sporting and cultural centrepiece for 500,000 people north of the bridge.”

Last term it was the Northern Motorway Project - this term it’s Penlink - both billiondollar transport projects. Northern Motorway had extra motorway lanes added, finishing with 10 kms of cycleways. Penlink started the same year, the largest transport project in the history of the Hibiscus Coast. These large projects transform our roading networks, reduce congestion and improve travelling times.

Major Investment in Underground Infrastructure for The Bays.

Between 2020 and 2024, Watercare invested $320 million in infrastructure across the Albany Ward, renewing and upgrading water and wastewater services. A significant portion has gone into the Bays, with major projects like the $21m Mairangi Bay pump station, the $23m East Coast Bays link sewer upgrade, and the $76m Rosedale Treatment Plant upgrade. While much of this work is underground and not visible, it’s vital for protecting the beautiful coastal environment that defines the Bays.

Supporting our clubs

Our ward is blessed with incredible community groups, churches, and volunteers. We back them 100% - with funding, advocacy, and support. Earlier this year Auckland’s mayor questioned the relevance & ongoing funding for our northern Surf Lifesaving Clubs - Orewa, Red Beach, Mairangi Bay & Omaha - dismissing them as ‘babysitting organisations.’ His comments inaccurate and ill-informed. Our Surf Lifesaving Clubs are among the most valued & trusted organisations in our community - keeping people safe, training youth & providing a vital civil defence capability. “We’re absolutely committed to backing our clubs, including financial support for new facilities at Mairangi Bay and Orewa - two of the largest clubs in the country.”

Keeping the Bays United

In early 2025, an attempt was made to politically divide East Coast Bays during a Local Government Representation Review, shifting Mairangi Bay, Campbells Bay, and Murrays Bay into another ward - without consultation. With local board chair Alexis Poppelbaum, we successfully fought to keep the Bays unified. “The East Coast Bays is a longstanding community of interest and should remain united.”

Glenvar/East Coast Road Intersection Improvements

Glenvar Road’s improvement project - long advocated for - is now budgeted at $53 million and expected to begin next financial year. After a costly $3.6 million slip repair, this upgrade is critical for safety and access. Funding is also set aside in 2025/26 for Vaughans Road/Te Oneroa Link improvements.
